What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth — to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. From: http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/dental-crowns
Crowns may be used to:
- Replace a large filling when there is little tooth structure remaining
- Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
- Restore a fractured tooth
- Attach a bridge
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a discolored or poorly shaped tooth
- Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
At Todays Dentistry we pride ourselves in offering the latest technology and service to our patients and we are excited to offer CAD-CAM (Computer Aided Design) Same-day Dental Crowns and restorations. Instead of waiting several weeks for a crown, inlay/onlay or veneer, you can have stunning, permanent teeth in just a few hours. No temporaries and no waiting!
What is a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.
